Imagery brought to life through the representation of death
As part of his ‘To The Bone’ exhibition, Sonny created a series of skull sculptures which allowed him to further explore the imagery depicted in his paintings. Mirroring the canvases, he hand-painted native patterns onto the skulls as a symbol for how closely our heritage is linked to these animals. With their golden teeth ablaze, the skulls invoke an appreciation of the might and power of these creatures, while serving as a tangible symbol for what the future may hold.
