This limited-edition series of fine art prints is based on a canvas original titled, Manipi, which is derived from Native American language meaning ‘walking wonder’. Each print has been individually hand-finished with NC embellishments and a hand-painted artist signature, making every one original and unique.

This artwork is a part of Sonny’s To The Bone series, made up of ten original canvases and eight hand-painted skull replicas that showcase endangered animals from around the world.

The paintings show the animals’ faces breaking away to reveal the raw skeletons underneath, symbolic of how these beautiful creatures are quickly fading away. Tribal patterns from the animals’ country of origin adorn the exposed bones, driving home the message that in losing them we’re losing a part of our heritage too.

Although grizzly bears have been saved from the brink of extinction in North America, they are still threatened by a brutal trophy hunt in British Columbia. Scientists say there are about 15,000 grizzlies left in British Columbia, but that number could be as low as 6,000 and many scientists are concerned that killing over 300 of these majestic animals every year may threaten their long-term survival!

Through this artwork Sonny hopes to drive home the message that grizzly bears are worth far more alive than dead. They are essential to British Columbia’s rain forest ecosystem, distributing fertiliser through the forests. Not to mention that eco-tourism is far more lucrative than trophy hunting.

10% of each sale will go to  IFAW‘s Russia tiger work and South Africa landscape programme.
